Welsh Government Admits Free School Meals Failing
The Welsh government has acknowledged that its free school meals program is failing to adequately meet the needs of disadvantaged children. This admission comes after mounting pressure from advocacy groups and reports highlighting the inadequacies of the current system.
Despite efforts to provide free meals to students in need, many children are still going hungry due to logistical challenges, lack of funding, and bureaucratic inefficiencies. The government has promised to take urgent action to address these issues and ensure that all children have access to nutritious meals while at school.
Education Minister, Jane Hutt, stated, “It is unacceptable that any child in Wales should go hungry while at school. We are committed to improving the free school meals program and ensuring that every child has access to healthy and balanced meals.”
The government plans to conduct a full review of the current system and work on implementing necessary changes to better support vulnerable children. In the meantime, advocacy groups continue to push for immediate action to address the crisis of child hunger in Wales.
